Repairing of Marawi mosques nearing completion —TFBM chief

The chairman of the Task Force Bangon Marawi on Sunday said the repair work on the mosques in the war-torn city is already nearing completion.

In a statement, TFBM chairman Secretary Eduardo del Rosario, who also heads the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, said there are six mosques being repaired inside Marawi City’s most affected area, three of which are slated for completion in May.

However, del Rosario did not mention which mosques are set for completion.

Del Rosario said refurbishment works for the Masjid Darussalam in Barangay Raya Madaya, Masjid Disomangcop in Barangay Daguduban, and the White Mosque in Barangay Lumbac Madaya began in October last year following the release of funds to mobilize project contractors.

Meanwhile, reconstruction efforts for the Grand Mosque, the Bato Ali Mosque and Lilod Madaya Mosque had likewise kicked off, he added.

Del Rosario said mosques are prioritized as the government sees the reconstruction of the religious sites as crucial to the social healing of the Maranaos.

Construction works meant to rehabilitate Marawi went on full-blast in July last year. Del Rosario said most projects are slated for completion in December 2021.

Earlier, del Rosario said the TFBM along with other concerned agencies are about 50% complete in the Marawi rebuilding project. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
