Catanduanes gears up for Bising

The island-province of Catanduanes has already put in place emergency measures and pre-positioned relief goods for residents that may be displaced as it faces the onslaught of Typhoon Bising.

In a "Dobol B TV" interview on Sunday morning, Catanduanes governor Joseph Cua said they have already activated its emergency operation centers (EOC) and alerted municipalities and barangays in connection with the typhoon.

Catanduanes is currently placed under Tropical Cyclone Signal (TCWS) No. 2 due to Bising.

The activation of the EOC will prompt the automatic transfer of residents in low-lying areas to evacuation centers, Cua said.

"Sa ngayon wala pa kaming details [kung ilan nasa evacuation centers] Normally kapag nandun sa bahay-bahay, hindi accounted yun, e. Nalalaman natin afterwards, after the typhoon" (For now we don't have details yet how many are in evacuation centers. Normally, those who are still in their homes are not accounted for), he said.

We have pre-positioned relief goods for them, he added.

Cua said their focus at the moment is monitoring the typhoon track as he hoped that it would continue going the northwards direction.

"Hopefully lumihis naman dahil nga five and a half months pa lang mula nung na-grabe kami ng Super Typhoon Rolly"(We hope Bising goes the other direction because it's barely five and half months since we were struck by Super Typhoon Rolly), he added.

Apart from Catanduanes, the provinces of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar are under TCWS No. 2.

Meanwhile, 12 other areas are under TCWS No. 1.  —LBG, GMA News
