1 dead, 1 missing in Eastern Visayas due to Bising –OCD


Office of Civil Defense Region 8 Director Lord Byron Torrecarion on Monday said one person died in Southern Leyte, while another local was reported missing amid the onslaught of Typhoon Bising.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, Torrecarion said the fatality was a 79-year-old male in San Isidro, Southern Leyte, who died after a length of timber fell on him causing a severe head injury.

“Meron po tayong isang casualty. This happened yesterday. A 79-year-old male from San Isidro, Southern Leyte. Nahulugan siya ng kahoy. Nagka-severe head injury po siya,” he said.

In Northern Samar, a 20-year-old male went missing after he left his house on Friday afternoon to recover some livestock aboard a motorbanca with three companions.

The three companions were already found by authorities, Torrecarion said.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin on Monday, state weather bureau PAGASA said at least eight areas remained under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 as Bising maintained its strength.

At 10:00 a.m., Bising was located 235 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 360 kms east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

The typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 195 kms per hour and gustiness of up to 240 kph.

The typhoon was forecast to gradually weaken during the remainder of the forecast period. — DVM, GMA News
