2 dead, 1 missing in Central, Eastern Visayas due to Bising —NDRRMC

Two people were killed while one was missing in the Visayas due to the onslaught of Typhoon Bising, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tuesday.

In its latest report on the effects of Bising, the NDRRMC said the two fatalities were from Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas while the missing person was from Eastern Visayas.

One person was also reportedly injured in Central Visayas.

A total of 68, 490 people or 18, 467 families were evacuated in Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions due to Bising. A total of 50, 523 persons or 12, 913 families were affected.

In Eastern Visayas, 56 barangays were flooded. In the Caraga Region, four infrastructures -- two seawalls, a port, and a tower base -- were damaged. Two houses in Bicol and Caraga regions were damaged.

The NDRRMC also said the typhoon rendered six road sections and a bridge in Bicol and Easter Visayas not passable. Meanwhile, at least 63 cities and municipalities experienced power interruptions in Bicol, Central and Eastern Visayas.

Almost 40 areas suspended the work and classes die to the threat of the typhoon.

At least 24 sea trips in Central Visayas, all flights in Tacloban City Airport on April 18, and 10 flights from other areas were cancelled.

At 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Bising was located at 475 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 km per hour and gustiness of up to 215 km/h, according to PAGASA

Bising is seen to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday.

The typhoon is forecast to gradually weaken throughout the forecast period and may be downgraded to severe tropical storm by Saturday evening or Sunday early morning, PAGASA said. --KBK, GMA News
