Ex-congressman Andaya survives slay try in CamSur

Unidentified suspects on Tuesday shot at former Camarines Sur Representative Rolando Andaya Jr. while he was driving his vehicle in Pili town, but the erstwhile lawmaker was unhurt.

A statement from Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) said the suspects were on board a motorcycle. Two fired cartridges of calibre .45 were recovered from the area.

"I did not see the perpetrator or perpetrators at all," Andaya said in a message to reporters.

The former lawmaker said he initially thought that they hit a motorcycle. He said it was when he saw the hole in his car that he realized that somebody shot them.

"If the car had not been bullet proof maybe we would not be communicating now," Andaya said.

Police said the incident took place along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Palestina around 5:45 a.m.

PRO5 chief Police Brigadier General Jonnel Estomo ordered an investigation into the incident. A special provincial investigation team was created to speed up the identification of the perpetrators.

More police were deployed in the concerned area to monitor and prevent similar incidents, police said.

"Makakaasa po kayo na kami ay makikipagtulungan sa mga witnesses at mga local government official ng Camarines Sur upang mapabilis na pagtukoy at pagresolba sa insidenteng ito," Estomo said.
