Bacolod runs out of COVID-19 beds

Bacolod City in Negros Occidental has run out of beds for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients, according to a report on "24 Oras" on Thursday.

As of June 2, Bacolod has recorded 9,767 cases of COVID-19 with 1,270 active cases.

"As in puno na siya, full. All the rooms are occupied. Walang nurses. So you cannot just put in people when you cannot take care of them," Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases-Negros Occidental chapter president Dr. Rommela Tiples-Ruiz said.

Ruiz said the local government unit already requested additional nurses and hospital beds to the Department of Health.

Meanwhile, she said they have resorted to home care services for patients waiting for bed vacancy.

Last week, an analysis of DOH data by the GMA News Research team showed that 32 provinces nationwide are running out or have run out of beds for COVID-19 patients.

Data showed that there were no longer vacant ICU beds in Albay, Antique, Lanao del Sur, Quezon, Surigao del Norte, and Zamboanga del Norte.

Meanwhile, the ICU beds in Bataan, Cagayan, Iloilo, Misamis Oriental, Rizal, Tarlac, and Zambales are at a critical level.

ICU beds are also at high-risk level in Batangas, Benguet, La Union, Laguna, Nueva Vizcaya, Pampanga, South Cotabato, and Zamboanga del Sur.

The Philippines has so far recorded 1,247,899 cases of COVID-19 including 1,170,752 recoveries and 21,357 deaths.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
