Armyworms attack 90 hectares of farm crops in Cagayan Valley

Armyworms attacked farms in 11 villages in Cagayan Valley even as the farmers in the province have yet to recover from the effects of the dry season, a "State of the Nation" report showed Thursday.

According to Jonathan Andal's report, the crop-ravaging caterpillars also called "Fall Armyworms" destroyed crops in around 90 hectares of land in the province.

In a previous report, scientists said the caterpillar destroys young maize plants, attacking their growing points and burrowing into the cobs.

The Department of Agriculture is already looking into the incident. -- Consuelo Marquez/BAP, GMA News
