Rivers swell, people evacuate amid floods caused by heavy monsoon rains


Several areas in the country experienced flooding on Thursday morning amid hours and hours of heavy monsoon rains, according to reports of local government units and local disaster offices.

In Occidental Mindoro, at least six barangays in Santa Cruz experienced waist-deep floods that prompted some affected residents to evacuate.

 

In Batangas, Calatagan’s Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office advised motorists going to Poblacion to avoid the national road due to flooding and take an alternate route through Diversion Road going to the Calatagan Public Market to Cueto Street.

The Apacible Street is not also passable to light vehicles, it added.

In Cavite, the Prinza Dam San Nicolas 1 overflowed, according to Bacoor Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office. Due to this, the affected area is not passable.

The Zapote Bridge in Bacoor was also not passable for all types of vehicle as of 7:30 a.m.

According to a report of GMA Regional TV, 26 barangays in Pikit, Cotabato, were submerged in flood, which came down from Rio Grande de Mindanao and Liguasan Marsh.

In Bukidnon, at least 50 residents near a river in Malaybalay were affected by the flood. Some of them moved to higher ground.

In Misamis Oriental, a house was damaged after a narra fell on it amid the strong winds and heavy.

Many roads in Metro Manila also experienced flooding due to the monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon Fabian. KBK, GMA News
