No money for shawarma? Come inside, I’ll give it for free, says Lebanese in Lapu-lapu City

The Lebanese owner of a shawarma restaurant in Lapu-lapu City has been drawing appreciation not just for his food but also for eagerness to help the hungry in his neighborhood.

According to Oscar Oida's "24 Oras" report, Rabih Hassounhe willingly gives his dishes to those salivating residents who could not earn money amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"If any people don't have money, come inside I will give it for free," Rabih said.

"I don't have money to give people but I have food," he added.

Rabih has been living in the Philippines for over two years.

Prior to opening Papa Rony Shawarma Store, he was also poor and could not afford delicious food.

He had to sell his bike to use as a profit to invest in his shawarma store.

When he first opened his small store, Rabih said he earned only P500 to P700.

Despite this, he still pushed for it and eventually his shawarma tickled the taste buds of more people in Lapu-Lapu City.

"I love Philippines, I love the people here. They are very good and all the people love me also," Rabih said. —Consuelo Marquez/NB, GMA News
