4 new Delta variant cases detected in Bohol


TAGBILARAN CITY – More cases of the more transmissible Delta variant were detected in the province of Bohol, which has been experiencing a surge of new COVID-19 cases.

The Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH 7) reported Monday that four cases of Delta variants of COVID-19 were detected in the province among the 26 Delta variant infections recorded in Central Visayas.

According to the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Central Visayas (RESU 7), there were two cases detected in Tagbilaran City, one case from Baclayon and one case from San Miguel town.

Local health authorities said the patients have already recovered from the disease.

The samples that were sent to the Philippine Genome Center in Manila were collected between July 9 and August 9.

In an earlier interview, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, chief pathologist of DOH 7, said that the regional health office is not discounting the possibility that Bohol already has a community transmission of the variant.

A total of six Delta variant cases have been detected in Bohol.

The local government continues to call on residents to adhere to health protocols and get vaccinated.

As of Aug. 31, a total of 13,116 confirmed cases were recorded in the province. There were 1,842 active cases 275 deaths. -- BAP, GMA News
