Ormoc receives over 20K AstraZeneca, Sinovac doses

Over 20,000 doses of the AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines purchased by the Ormoc City Government have arrived during the weekend, the local government said Thursday.

Of the batch, Mayor Richard Gomez said that 11,000 doses were AstraZeneca while 10,000 doses were Sinovac. He said the vaccines arrived on Saturday.

“Ninais po ng inyong city government na makasiguro na lahat tayo ay protektado laban sa COVID-19 kung kaya’t ginawan po namin ng paraan na magkaroon tayo ng sapat na bilang ng bakuna para sa lahat,” he said in a statement.

(The City Government wants to ensure that everyone is protected against COVID-19, so we found a way to obtain sufficient vaccines for everyone.)

Gomez urged residents to get vaccinated against the illness to curb the spread of the virus.

“Ako po ngayon ay nanawagan sa inyong lahat na sana ay makiisa tayo sa vaccination program ng pamahalaan nang sa ganun ay magkaroon tayo ng panangga laban sa COVID-19,” he said.

(I am urging everyone to cooperate with the vaccination program to ensure that we have enough protection against COVID-19.)

“Mahalaga po ang kalusugan ng bawat isa sa atin (The health of each and every one of us is important),” he added.

The mayor said that the local government partnered with various agencies and institutions in order to procure the vaccines to ensure enough supply amid the threat of the more contagious Delta variant.

“I wanted to make sure that Ormoc will not run out of vaccines for our people,” he said.

The World Health Organization Philippines on Tuesday said the highly contagious Delta variant has become the dominant coronavirus variant in the country.

Meanwhile, the country has logged a total of 2,020,484 cases, of which 1,840,294 have recovered and 33,680 have died. -MDM, GMA News
