Worldwide coronavirus cases reach 39.48M, death toll at 1,105,677 —Reuters tally

More than 39.48 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,105,677 have died, according to a Reuters tally.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.

The top five countries in terms of number of coronavirus cases are as follows:

• US: 8,079,921 cases and 218,633 deaths
• India: 7,432,680 cases and 112,998 deaths
• Brazil: 5,200,300 cases and 153,214 deaths
• Russia: 1,384,235 cases and 24,002 deaths
• Argentina: 965,609 cases and 25,723 deaths

The Philippines is 20th on the list with 354,338 cases and 6,603 deaths. —Reuters
