Australia greets 2024 with spectacular fireworks display

SYDNEY — Australia welcomed 2024 on Monday, January 1 with a dazzling fireworks display featuring silver and gold pyrotechnics to commemorate the Sydney Opera House's 50th anniversary.

The 12-minute spectacular included 36,000 shooting effects featuring comets, mines and crossettes and 13,000 aerial shells including serpent, Saturn ring and horse tail willow shells.

The fireworks were launched from Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, six water-based platforms, five city building rooftops and four pontoons across the city.

The display used more than 8.5 tons of fireworks, according to organizers. — Reuters
