Top 10 Ang Pinaka: Bonggang Wedding Ideas

To usher in the ‘marry’ month of June, GMA News TV’s award-winning info-tainment countdown show lists down the top 10 ‘Ang Pinaka’ Bonggang Wedding Ideas for couples planning to tie the knot in spectacular fashion.

Radio DJ Nicole Hyala, wedding photographer Charisse Tinio, and wedding planner/coordinator Christine Ong-Te joined host Rovilson Fernandez as guest panelists for this special episode.

Make your  “I do's” memorable with these Team Pinaka-approved wedding ideas:

10. Photobooth

Photobooths come in all shapes and sizes, and usually come with both a tarpaulin backdrop and an array of wigs, hats, feathers, glasses, and boas that guests can don for wacky pictures.

In today's selfie-obsessed culture, photobooths are a clever way to both amuse wedding guests, and leave them with fun, affordable souvenirs.

9. Games

Tired of the old garter and bouquet toss? DJ Nicole Hyala recommends this fun twist on the classic tradition: Attach ribbons of varying lengths to the bouquet and let the single ladies each pull a ribbon. The girl who gets the longest ribbon wins the bouquet.

For something really new, wedding photographer Charisse Tinio suggests a question and answer game in which all guests can participate. Guests can be divided into “Team Groom” and “Team Bride.” Both teams will have placards to raise in response to questions like “Sino sa tingin n’yo ang mas matagal magprepare sa umaga?”

As for prizes, if you have extra cash, gadgets are a sure way to encourage participation.

8. Souvenirs and Giveaways

Gone are the days of tacky figurines, crystal bells, capiz fans and other wedding giveaways that only gather dust in the house. Now, practical and relevant weddings souvenirs are more popular. Our guest panelists recommend bride-and-groom-shaped salt and pepper shakers, wine bottles with customized photo labels, or cake in a jar.

7. Wedding Entrance

To start your wedding with a bang, try one of these creative and dramatic entrances: Have your flower girl hold a placard with the sign “Here comes the bride!”; cruise into your reception on a Harley Davidson with your hubby or wife; or organize a mob dance routine.

6. Wedding Dance

The newlyweds' first dance is one of the most awaited moments in a wedding, and is traditionally held towards the end of the program. But nowadays, says Charisse Tinio, couples like to have their first dance at the beginning of the event, so it can be included in the on-site video.

Christine Ong-Te observed that mob dances, in which the wedding entourage dances with couple, are now also practiced.

5. Wedding Cake

In the olden days, wedding cakes were usually just plain white and comprised of four to five layers of cake and styrofoam. But a number of wedding cake innovations have emerged in recent years. In one popular trend, hundreds of cupcakes are layered one on top of the other to form a cupcake tower. There are also designer cakes as seen on baking shows like Cake Boss and Fabulous Cakes.

4. Invitations

Wedding invites used to look like a distant cousin of the diploma, with their formal design, use of parchment paper, and calligraphy font. Couples these days, however, have become creative with their invites.

DJ Nicole Hyala recalls once receiving a disposable camera as a wedding invitation. Christine Ong-Te once received invitations shaped like passports that included pop-ups for a 3D effect.

As for Charisse Tinio, nothing beats the scrapbook invitation she once made for a client. “It was 15 pages na nagpapakita ng kanilang love story,” she recalls.

3. Wedding Videos

During the VHS era, couples had to wait weeks before they could watch their edited wedding videos. Now, videographers can easily edit wedding videos "on-site" or during the event itself.

Another recent innovation in wedding videos is the “save-the-date” video, which sometimes looks more like a stylish TV commercial or sleek movie teaser.

2. Prenup Pictorial

For couples who don’t have a budget for a “save-the-date” video, the prenup pictorial serves not only as a teaser for the wedding, but more importantly, as a test shoot and rehearsal for the big day.

“Dito pa lang makakakuha na sila ng rapport sa kanilang photographer,” explains Charisse Tinio. “Nagkakaalaman na sila ng ugali.”

“‘Yung couple nagkakaroon ng idea how to face the camera para alam nila kung paano sila magpo-pose,” adds Christine Ong-Te.

1. Wedding Theme

Wedding themes now go beyond the choice of colors. Couples these days are more daring, pulling off Star Wars-inspired, Lord of the Rings-inspired, and Hello Kitty-inspired weddings.

From the invitation to the wedding attire, couples make sure that their personalities--their work, favorite hobbies, and aspirations, among others--are reflected in the theme.
