'Ang Pinaka' Yummy Restaurants in Bulacan

Since so many notable things are associated with Bulacan — historical churches, influential heroes and talented artists — it's easy to forget that, like other parts of the Philippines, this province is also home to delicious food. From the crunchy chicharon to the creamy pastillas, and a wide array of rice cakes, Bulacan certainly doesn't fall flat in satisfying gastronomic needs.

But where exactly do you have to eat in order to enjoy the best of Bulacan food? "Ang Pinaka" answers this question by going around Bulacan and sampling the meals it offers. Here's a list of our recommended food destinations (in no particular order).

Hapag Restaurant and Events Place

Hapag Restaurant and Events Place is a Filipino restaurant that traces its humble beginnings to a catering business. It also functions as a venue for special occasions such as birthday parties and wedding receptions.

Hapag is most famous for its Hapag Rice (P108), a fried rice dish mixed with eggs, bacon, liempo and kangkong. Hapag Rice can be eaten on its own but if you want to have a complete meal, we recommend the Nachos de Longganisa de Calumpit (P178) for appetizer, the Lechon Kawali Kare-Kare (P178) and the 3-in-1 Sinigang (P268) for the main course, the Green in Mango Dressing (P98) for the salad, and the Pastillas con Hielo (P158) for dessert.

Hapag Restaurant and Events Place is located at Hiyas ng Bulacan Capitol Compound, Guinhawa Street, City of Malolos, Bulacan.

Nina's Fried Itik Restaurant

Add a menu made up of classic and exotic Pinoy dishes, a staff dressed in barong tagalog and Filipiniana, and a playlist composed of Filipino folk songs and you get what Nina's Fried Itik Restaurant is about.

What's great about Nina is that it offers food that are not regularly available in other restaurants. After all, this place is most known for its exotic recipes like the Fried Itik (P170), Adobong Itik (P170), Fried Hito (P160), and Igat sa Gata (P150). If you're not feeling adventurous, you can try the more traditional Sinampalukang Manok (P195) and the Crispy Dinuguan (P180).

Located at a place accessible to drivers, La Familia serves as a convenient food stop for both travelers and patrons. Today, most of La Familia's customers are also families who want to enjoy lutong bahay dishes.

Beef Serkele (P195), an old recipe passed down the Alejo family, is the restaurant's bestseller. If you want a healthier food choice, you can opt for La Familia's Okay na Okoy (P20) which is made of pumpkin. Citang's Eatery

Who would've thought that a small rice cake business would grow as one of the most popular gotohan in Bulacan? Back in the 70's, Citang's offered puto, kutsinta, sapin-sapin, kalamay and other types of kakanin. Today, Citang's is still known for these edibles but the eatery has also built a reputation for serving delicious goto and tokwa't baboy.

Instead of following the typical way of preparing their signature dishes, Citang's Eatery has developed their own style of cooking. For example their Goto (P25) and Dinuguan (P40) is made of carabao meat instead of beef and pork. They also fry the pork twice to make their Tokwa't Baboy (P40) crispier. Some of the rice cakes that Citang's Eatery offers include the Putong Puti (P60) and the Sapin-sapin (P60).

Visit Bulacan's go-to goto place at 620 Kuatro Kantos, Sta. Isabel, City of Malolos, Bulacan.

Kalye Mabini

Like most Filipino restaurants and homes, Kalye Mabini has mastered the art of serving different kinds of cuisine. Though many of the food served in this resto are inspired by Italian and American dishes, the owners made sure that their menu is still infused with a Pinoy flavor.

Kalye Mabini's bestseller is their Lomo Ribs (P325) or pork baby back ribs. Since it is their specialty, Kalye Mabini offers different versions of this dish. There's Mama's Salad (P150), a vegetable salad topped with lomo ribs and garlic mayonnaise, and the Rib Burger (P90), a burger that has pan de sal as buns and lomo ribs as its meat patty. Other popular dishes are the Garlic a la Pasta (P150) and the Turon Squares with Vanilla Ice Cream (P55).
