Deep red lipsticks and metallic eyeshadows are the focal point of many holiday collections this year. Paired with bare cheeks, the look draws on old Hollywood for an evening look that’s glamorous yet understated at the same time. You’ll see this among high-end brands like Lancôme, Estée Lauder (which has the deliciously named “Red Velvet”) and Chanel, but you don’t need to break the bank to get the look!
If you own a eyeshadow palette, chances are you already have similar hues. The colors themselves are nothing new, and you can easily find them at drugstore brands.

Party-proof your makeup
Strictly come dancing. If you’re expecting to break a sweat, make sure your mascara is waterproof to avoid getting raccoon eyes as the night goes on.
Pot luck party? Matte lipsticks act as stains, leaving a lighter shade on your lips even after eating and drinking.
No blush. Your cheeks will flush as the party goes on, anyway!
Highlight, don’t contour. Use a light powder to define the high points of your face instead of using brown to accentuate its hollows.
It’ll give the same, lifting effect without but won’t look messy after a night of fun.

Get the look
Look #1: Christmas lights
Here’s a warm look that mirrors the lights that decorate your tree.

1) Pat bronze eyeshadow onto your entire lids, taking it all the way up to your brow bone.
2) Brush gold shadow onto your brow bone and in the inner corners of your lids. Add a shimmering brown shade in your creases to define the eyes.
3) Using a brown pencil, line your eyes as thinly as possible. Line your lower eyelid with a burgundy shadow and flick it upward to add depth.
4) Apply two coats of mascara on your upper and lower lashes.
5) Finish with a berry-colored lipstick.

Look #2: Candy canes
A red lip adds sass to any Christmas outfit. Keep it youthful and fresh with minimal eye makeup.

1) Apply your lipstick first — It’ll be easier to see how much eye makeup you need.
2) Brush a matte, champagne-colored eyeshadow over the entire lids.
3) Add a dot of shimmering, beige shadow in the inner corners of your lids to open the eyes.
4) Line your upper lids with a gel eyeliner, making it a bit thicker towards the outer corners.
5) Finish with a coat of mascara on the top lashes.
