Tea houses are everywhere nowadays, serving unique concoctions that promise to refresh and satisfy. But did you know that you can make your own tea by using ingredients from your own garden?
In a recent episode of “Good News,” Dr. Sonny Villoria, a herbal medicine practitioner, talked about how to make your own tea using garden flowers like gumamela and santan.
Like fruits, these flowers are rich in vitamins and antioxidants which are good for the body. But, Dr. Villoria reminds us to use only organic ingredients, or those which are not exposed to pesticides and fertilizers.
Rose tea
You’ll need:
Fresh organic red roses
Water
Clean jar
Procedure:
Remove the white part of the rose petals. Soak them in a clean jar filled with water and leave it there for a month. Drain, then it’s ready to serve.
Benefits:
Rose tea contains Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin K and carotene. It can help improve blood circulation and relieve fatigue.
Gumamela tea
You’ll need:
Fresh organic gumamela flowers
Water
Clean jar
Procedure:
Dry the gumamela flowers either by exposing them to sunlight or by air drying them. Soak the dried gumamela flowers in a jar filled with water and leave for a month. Drain, then it’s ready to be served.
Benefits:
Gumamela tea is rich in Vitamin C and is also recommended for people suffering from Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
Sampaguita tea
You’ll need:
Fresh organic sampaguita flowers
Boiling water
Procedure:
Put the sampaguita flowers in a container. Pour boiling water. Cover and wait for 30 minutes, then it’s ready to be served.
Benefits:
Sampaguita tea contains Vitamin C. It may help strengthen the immune system and may also be good for people suffering from ulcer and heartburn.
Santan tea
You’ll need:
Fresh organic santan flowers
Clean pot
Water
Procedure:
Put the santan flowers on a clean pot, then pour water. Let it boil for 10 to 15 minutes. Drain, then it’s ready to be served.
Benefits:
Santan tea may help in easing hypertension. You may also add kalamansi and sugar for more flavor.
