Exotic Cagayan dishes, ihahain sa 'Pinas Sarap'

Ngayong Huwebes, bibiyahe tayo pa-Norte sa probinsiya ng Cagayan para kilitiin ang ating panlasa ng mga nagsasarapang nilang pagkain. Sa part 1 ng ating Cagayan foodtrip, samahan si Kara David tikman ang iba’t ibang ipinagmamalaking pansit ng probinsiya, mga putaheng gawa sa karne ng kalabaw, at pati na rin ang exotic dish ng mga Cagayanos.

Isa mga unang lugar sa Pilipinas na narating ng mga Tsino para makipagkalakalan ang Cagayan. Bukod sa mga produkto, dala rin ng mga Tsino ang kasanayan sa pagluluto na natutunan naman ng mga Pilipino. At isa na rito ang pagluluto ng pansit. Pero sa paglipas ng mahabang panahon, nagkaron ang mga Cagayanos ng sariling bersyon ng pansit, gaya ng Pansit Batil Patung, Sinanta at Miki Niladit.

Bukod sa pansit, kilala rin ang Cagayan dahil sa nagsasarapan nilang putahe na gawa sa carabeef o karne ng kalabaw gaya ng Mondonggo. Isa itong ulam na may sarsa na pinasarap ng tomato sauce. Pero kung kayo ay adventurous sa pagkain, pwede niyong tikman ang sikat nilang pulutan, ang Kapukken na gawa sa raw carabeef strips na tinimplahan ng papait at iba pang pampalasa.

Sa mga mahilig naman sa exotic dish, meron din silang putahe na hahamon sa inyong tapang, ang crispy abaling. Gawa naman ito sa larva ng salagubang na pinirito hanggang sa lumutong.

This week, we will travel to the North in the province of Cagayan to try out their best dishes. On the first part of our Cagayan foodtrip, join Kara David as she tastes different popular noodle dishes of the province, dishes that are made from carabao’s meat and other exotic dishes of the Cagayanos.

Cagayan is one of the first places in the country that the Chinese people reached to trade goods. Aside from products, the Chinese brought their history of cooking that Filipinos learned. And one of these is cooking pancit or noodles. But as time fly by, Cagayanos was able to develop their own versions of noodle dishes that they call Pancit Batil Patong, Sinanta and Miki Niladit.

Aside from noodle dishes, Cagayan is known because of their yummy dishes that are made from carabeef or carabao meat like Mondonggo. This dish has tomato sauce. But if you are adventurous when it comes to food, you can try out their popular appetizer called Kapukken, that is made from carabeef strips that is flavoured with bitter and other flavorings.

For those who likes exotic dishes, they also have crispy abaling. This dish is made from larva of beetle that is fried until it is crispy.
