Direk Joey's classic quotes about AlDub on 'Reel Time'
Last Sunday, GMA News TV documentary “Reel Time” tackled the AlDub craze in depth and asked the country’s best showbiz experts to explain why most, if not all of us, are crazy about Eat Bulaga’s “Kalyeserye.”
Award-winning writer and director Jose Javier Reyes, who we fondly know as Direk Joey, also trended on Twitter that night because of his witty and insightful lines about the AlDub love team.
Here are some of them:
1. “AlDub is a continuous combustion. Nobody planned it. It was a joke that became a love affair, a love affair between two actors and the public."
2. “They (AlDub) cut across all social classes, even the educated and the privileged.”
3. On Maine Mendoza’s beauty: “Maganda si Maine. At iyong ganda niya is a reachable kagandahan. Because when you see her without makeup, she is a girl. She is a normal girl. But at the same time, she is undergoing a great amount of changing her life because her life turned 360- degrees because of what has happened.”
4. On Alden Richard’s charm: “In a world where everybody is tough and a go-getter, he is somebody who is really very decent, very gentle. In other words, he is somebody who is respectable.”
5. “You have to realize that 66% of the AlDub nation consist of OFWs. Ang sabi nila, the split screen love affair ay nakakaiyak. 6. On the AlDub fever: “I mean my God, the world is na-windang with them! For BBC Asia to feature them, people in the States were like, ‘Who are they?’”
7. His advice to AlDub: "Bago ka pagsawaan ng tao, ikaw muna dapat ang magsawa sa sarili mo para mag-iba ka. At gulatin mo ang tao dahil may ipapakita ka na namang iba. The moment you become predictable, you become yesterday’s sensation.""
