Pinoy doctors in Dubai to provide free visual screening, eye glasses

A group of Filipino optometrists will provide free eye consultations, lectures, and eyeglasses to the community on Friday, according to a report by Gulf Today.

The Philippine Optometrists Society-UAE (POS-UAE) will conduct the first outreach program scheduled in 2018 on Friday afternoon at the Philippine Consulate General.

Continuing professional development courses for all Filipino optometrists on "Expanding Optometry Practice through Specialty Contact Lenses" will also be provided by Dr. Joserine Samson, Dr. Elena Borromeo, and Dr. Nick Howard on May 3 to 4 in Abu Dhabi and May 6 to 7 in Dubai.

POS-UAE aims to provide eye care to over 600,000 Filipinos living across the seven emirates. It is the first established overseas organization by Filipino eye doctors and is registered with the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai.

Adviser Dr. Yasmin Balajadia-Cortes shared eye care tips ahead of the mission, including resting one's eyes every 20 minutes while using mobile phones and computers, using up-to-date prescriptions, eating lutein and omega 3-rich foods, and undergoing eye check-ups every year. —Rie Takumi/LBG, GMA News
