For Pinoys abroad: Fun ways to feel at home

Truly, there’s no place like home—but for some Filipinos, moving abroad may be necessary for a brighter future. Fortunately, even if they’re in a foreign land, a taste of home is never a problem.  Whether as an overseas Filipino worker or an immigrant in a new abode, Pinoys will always find ways to stay connected not only as a family, but as a community as well.  Here are activities Filipinos can do to feel right at home even when they’re abroad:

Have a karaoke battle
There’s no denying that Pinoys love karaoke. Luckily, it’s an activity you can now do anywhere, even at the comfort of your own home. Get your family and your friends together for a night of karaoke. Spice it up by turning it into a friendly competition on who gets the highest singing score. Get your microphones out and invite people to belt it out!

Shop in a Filipino store
Even the simple aroma of Pinoy condiments can instantly make one feel at home. Treat yourself and get your favorite sawsawan from your nearest suking tindahan or Filipino store. While you’re at it, raid the shelves for a couple of Philippine-produced chips or canned goods.

Binge-watch Pinoy TV shows
Stay updated on the hottest Filipino shows with GMA Pinoy TV! Make it homier by watching them with your loved ones while pairing the activity with comfort food like the newest fresh beef Quarter Pounder burgers from McDonald’s! Enjoy it in different varieties: Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Garlic White Cheddar Burger, Sweet BBQ Bacon Burger, or Pico Guacamole Burger. Have one—or more—delivered just in time for the latest episode of high-rating GMA shows like The Stepdaughters or Kambal, Karibal. You can also keep abreast of the latest happenings in the Philippines with GMA News TV International.

Attend live concerts featuring Pinoy celebrities

Nothing can better make you feel at home than watching a live concert featuring your favorite Pinoy celebrities.  Live programs allow Pinoys to meet fellow Filipinos in their city and enjoy a show designed just for them—like what happened at the Sikat Ka, Kapuso! concert staged by GMA Pinoy TV with McDonald’s last April 7, 2018 in New Jersey, USA. This was the first major partnership between the international arm of GMA Network and the global fast food chain in bringing Filipinos closer to home in this big Kapuso concert!

The second leg of Sikat Ka, Kapuso! was held in Toronto, Canada the following day, April 8, 2018. Crowds of the two sold-out shows were treated to a flurry of star-studded surprises from Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo, Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado, Kapuso Premier Drama Actress Lovi Poe, Pambansang Bae Alden Richards, The Amazing Betong Sumaya, and Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes.

Not only were these Pinoys abroad treated to the stellar concert, they also went home lovin’ their giveaways from GMA Pinoy TV. The event even allowed them—most coming all the way from New York, Florida, Texas, Michigan, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, St. Laurent and Montreal, Ottawa, and Windsor—to enjoy lots of photo opportunities with their favorite Kapuso stars.
