‘Kapit sa Patalim’ docu explores the world of household workers
The majority of five million Filipinas who work abroad are household service workers (HSWs).
One of these Filipina HSWs was Jeanelyn Villavende, who died allegedly in the hands of her employers in Kuwait.
Prior to her tragic death, the 26-year-old had repeatedly asked her recruitment agency to be sent back home due to the maltreatment.
However, Villavende’s cries fell on deaf ears.
Following her death, the Bureau of Immigration implemented a partial deployment ban of newly-hired HSWs to Kuwait.
In this documentary, Atom Araullo dives deeper into the world of HSWs, who must first undergo training before they are deployed to other countries.
