Filipinos hit by fire in Cayman Islands get aid
The Migrant Worker’s Office in Washington, D.C. has provided financial aid for 12 overseas Filipino workers affected by a recent fire incident in the Cayman Islands in January.
According to a statement on Thursday, each OFW was provided $856.06 or over P50,000 to help with relocation and other personal expenses resulting from the fire.
“We assisted them in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac to ensure that OFWs in need are given urgent help,” said Labor Attache Saul De Vries.
He added that the OFWs were in dire need of said support after their rented home burned down.
The assistance was distributed through the Philippine Honorary Consul in Cayman Islands. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
