No Filipinos affected in Lisbon tram crash —DFA

No Filipinos have so far been reported involved in the recent crash of a funicular railway car in Lisbon, Portugal, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

"There are currently no indications of Filipino nationals involved in the tourist tram derailment in Lisbon,” DFA spokesperson Angelica Escalona said in a Viber message.

“The Philippine Embassy in Lisbon will continue to monitor developments,” she added.

At least 17 people died and 21 were injured when Lisbon's Gloria funicular railway car, which is popular with tourists, derailed and crashed on Wednesday.

Authorities did not identify the victims or disclose their nationalities, but said some foreign nationals were among the dead.

Opened in 1885, the Gloria line connects Lisbon's downtown area near the Restauradores Square with the Bairro Alto, or Upper Quarter. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
