Haifa mayor conveys condolences to Filipina, family killed in Israel attack
The mayor of Haifa City offered sympathies to the Filipina who died following a missile strike in Israel on the evening of April 5.
Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav called Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendoza to convey his condolences and express the city's "readiness to extend any assistance needed by the Embassy," according to a social media post by the Philippine envoy.
Also killed were the victim's Israeli husband and elderly parents-in-law, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Mendiola conveyed her sympathies "for the loss of lives among Haifa residents due to the missile attack, including the late Filipina’s elderly parents-in-law, in whose home they perished together with her Israeli husband during the incident."
"She also expressed the Philippines’ solidarity with Mayor Yahav and the people of Haifa as the city continues to face near-daily missile alerts during the ongoing conflict," the post said.
A port city, Haifa is home to around 5,000 Filipinos and is a sister city of Manila, the Philippine capital. —LDF, GMA News
