Cardinal Tagle's father passes away

Former archbishop of Manila Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle has asked for prayers after his father, Manuel Tagle Sr. passed away on Sunday, CBCP News reported.

Cardinal Tagle, who now serves as pro-prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization, said that his 96-year-old father died at 7:09 a.m. (Manila time).

In the CBCP News report, Cardinal Tagle said, “We thank God for his life and mission. Please pray for his eternal joy with God.”

“May Tatay Maning rest in peace, with Mary, the Angels and Saints,” he added.

"Known as “Tatay Maning,” Manuel Sr. was married to Milagros Gokim for 70 years. They worked for a bank and raised their two sons, Luis Antonio and Manuel Jr., in Imus, Cavite, south of Manila," CBCP News reported.

Meanwhile, the diocese of Imus announced that the wake and viewing will be held at Casas Hall in the Bishop's House on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026 from 4 to 10 p.m. This will continue on Sept. 8 and 9 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m..

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 10 at Imus Cathedral, the diocese added.

The Archdiocese of Manila issued a statement, expressing “profound sadness” and called on the people to pray for the repose of the soul of Tatay Maning and for the Tagle family.

CBCP News said the Tagle family announced that in lieu of flowers, cash donations for victims of the devastating flash floods in Nepal would be appreciated. — BAP, GMA News
