Cardinal Tagle saddened over Zamboanga school shooting
Cardinal Antonio Tagle had expressed sadness over the news of the school shooting involving students in Zamboanga City.
He arrived on Tuesday from Papua New Guinea when the first news report that he received was that of a student who killed in a school in Zamboanga.
"Ano kaya ang nagyayari sa isang puso ng isang bata na magpaplano? Ano ang hangad ng ganyang puso?" said Tagle, during Mass at the Parish Church of the Holy Sacrifice at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
(What happens to a child's heart that makes this plan? What does such a heart desire?)
He was referring to the shooting incident in Ateneo de Zamboanga University wherein two students died while another was injured on Tuesday, and one of them the alleged shooter.
According to Mayor Khymer Olaso, based on initial information, the shooter was able to enter the premises of Ateneo de Zamboanga University carrying a high-powered firearm and a .45 caliber pistol.
The prelate warned the people, especially parents and grandparents, about the danger that may befall children who spend much of their time on video games and in using Artificial Intelligence (A.I.).
"Para sa mga lolo, lola, mga magulang ipakita sa mga bata ang puso na makatao," he said.
(For grandparents, parents, show the children a humane heart)
"Pero sa inyong hapag kainan, ang tinitingnan cellphone at hindi bawat isa. Wala, ang kanilang puso ay ginagabayan na ng mga video games, ng mga AI tinuturuan sila mag-desisyon at kumilos," he added.
(But at your dinner table, you are looking at cellphones and not each other. None, their hearts are now guided by video games, by AIs teaching them to make decisions and act.)
Cardinal Tagle, the pro-prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization, advised against spending too much time on A.I. and video games as these do not have feelings and cannot provide the children with human guidance.
He talked about climate change and its adverse effecs on the ordinary people as he also warned against fake videos that feature his likeness giving a lecture on organic medicine that was shared by a nun.
Tagle, during the celebration of the feast of St. John Eudes, reminded the people to think before uttering words or deciding on an action to be taken.
"Sana bago tayo magsalita, bago tayo kumilos tanungin natin ano'ng uri ng puso ang nag-uudyok sa akin sa bagay na ito," he said.
