Pinay sisters' home in London ransacked by European squatters
Two retired Filipino nurses who are sisters are struggling to rebuild their lives after their house in London was ransacked by Romanian squatters, a report of the London Evening Standard said. According to the report, while the sisters were on vacation in the Philippines, their three-bedroom house in north London was overtaken by a gang of eight Romanians, including a pregnant woman and small children. The squatters evicted hours before the sisters returned from the Philippines, the report said. The report said the squatters insisted that they signed a tenancy agreement and had done nothing wrong. It also said the incident sparked fears that an organized network of squatters was targeting vacant residential properties. Fearing that their house would again be overtaken by gang members, the sisters told the Evening Standard that they were not sure if they wanted to stay at the house in New Southgate where they have lived for 27 years. In the report, Lilia said, "Some of our old clothes were still upstairs but everything else - jewellery, cutlery, wardrobes, the video, record player, books, cooking pots, curtains was taken. They even tried to twist off the toilet seat." She added that they have forgiven the squatters and even felt sorry for them. When the sisters returned on September 7, their neighbors rallied to help them, providing them with things like beddings, furniture, and a TV. - VVP, GMA News
