Filipino artists based in Guam are featured in a year-long monthly art exhibit, which started last Jan. 4 at the Philippine Consulate there. The project was undertaken with Guam Filipino Artists (GFA), after its members worked on an exhibit as part of the 2011 Philippine Independence month celebration. "Aside from providing a venue where their works can be displayed for free, the project aims to promote Filipino artists and to highlight the variety and abundance of Filipino talents in Guam," the Department of Foreign Affairs said. Featured for January is Guam-based GFA member Arnold "Anoy" Figueroa, a native of Manila and a fine arts student at the University of Santo Tomas. Five of Figueroa's works, all done using water color as medium, are now on display at the consular area. The works include a portrait of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal and a painting of the Andres Bonifacio monument. Among the guests at the ribbon-cutting were Senator Sam Mabini of the 31st Guam Legislature, Figueroa, GFA President Roly Zepeda, GFA members Jun and Mila Moguel and Newstalk K57's Marilyn Nicely. — LBG, GMA News
