Pinoys feted on Rizal Day in Macau


Overseas Filipino workers in Macau were feted by Philippine officials there on the 115th anniversary of the martyrdom of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal on December 30 last year. The Philippine Consulate General in Macau said some OFWs received plaques of appreciation for their support to the Consulate's cultural programs. "The recipients of the plaques ranged from individuals to organizations who volunteered their time, talents, and resources for the success of the Consulate's thrust to promote awareness of Philippine culture in Macau," the Department of Foreign Affairs said. Among those who received the plaques were:

  • Global Debutante Filipino Engineers and Architects Society of Macau (FEASMAC) headed by Dennis Dela Cruz

Consul General Renato Villapando reminded the awardees of the heroism of Rizal who gave the ultimate sacrifice by facing execution for fighting for independence. Villapando also reminded the OFWs heroism may be demonstrated by ordinary individuals through small acts that contributes positively to the country. "He lauded the awardees for their show of heroism by demonstrating the spirit of 'bayanihan' as well as for showing a positive and inspiring image of the Philippines and the Filipino people," the DFA said. - VVP, GMA News
