Pinay faces UAE court for 'out of wedlock' pregnancy
For becoming pregnant even though she was allegedly not yet married, a 28-year-old Filipina faced a misdemeanor court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A report of the news site Gulf News on Tuesday said the Filipina and her 30-year-old Indian partner faced charges for having consensual sex outside of marriage. However, the Indian told the court that they were already married. The couple is now out on bail, the report said. The Filipina was found to be pregnant when she was rushed to a hospital after complaining of severe abdominal pain. When she was examined, she was found to have an ectopic pregnancy. According to Medicine.Net, an ectopic pregnancy is a "condition in which a fertilized egg settles and grows in any location other than the inner lining of the uterus." Gulf News said the Filipina did not know that she was two months pregnant. She claimed that she only had sexual relations with the Indian once. The report said the hospital management alerted the police after learning that the Filipina conceived out of wedlock. In her statement to the police, the Filipina said: "We were friends at work. Then we started hanging out and our relationship developed into a love affair. Both of us love each other."
"One weekend, my boyfriend picked me up from home and we went out for a drive. He stopped his car at the beachside … and then we made love in his car. That was the only time. Sometime later when I visited the hospital, doctors told me that I was pregnant," she added. - VVP, GMA News
