Pinoy dies in kite-surfing accident in Malibu
A Filipino from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) died in a kite-surfing accident in Malibu on Monday night (United States time), a US-based news site reported. LA Weekly reported that Dante Torres, 28, got entangled in a bed of kelp as he was surfing in Malibu's Topanga County Beach. LA Weekly said a lifeguard saw Torres hit the water. While his rig became airborne, the surfer remained stayed down in the water. The report quoted a Venice kite-surfer called "wavehucker" who said Torres traveled to the US with his family from Dubai and just arrived the day before the accident on Sunday. The report said Torres was face down in the water "pretty far away" from his kite and board. There was no sign of head trauma, cuts, bruises, line-tangle on his legs, or any other bar or line entrapment. A separate report on Gulf News said an official from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office identified Torres as a Filipino. - VVP, GMA News
