Fil-Ams in Chicago to hold Piyestang Pinoy


The Filipino community in Chicago, Illinois is bringing the spirit of the Philippine fiesta forth in a free cultural neighborhood gathering at the “Windy City” this April 1.   With “Piyestang Pinoy,” the community will join Navy Pier’s Neighborhood of the World series for the first time, where they will get to showcase Philippine culture and traditions through interaction with visitors, authentic cuisine, and music and dance.   Among those slated to perform in the event at the Navy Pier’s Crystal Gardens is Kapuso RnB singer Jay-R, along with performing groups such as:

  • the Chicago Angklung and Rondalla Ensemble;
  • hip hop dance group Cryptic Movement Crew;
  • Hataw Pinoy;
  • Philippine American Cultural Foundation (PACF) Performing Arts; and
  • the Sulyap Pilipino Cultural Dance Company.
  The event, which will run from 12 noon to 5 p.m., is presented by Navy Pier in partnership with the Consulate General of the Philippine and the Philippine American Cultural Foundation.   It is sponsored by GMA Network’s international channels, GMA Pinoy TV and GMA Life TV, together with Comcast and Xfinity.   For more information, PACF’s Ruben Salazar, festival organizer, at 630-379-9636 or at PiyestaPinoy@gmail.com.
