Pinoy paintings adorn prestigious Chicago university

Paintings by Filipino artists now adorn the new Arts and Letters Building of the DePaul University in Chicago, the Philippine Consulate General there reported.   Consul General Leo Herrera-Lim, attended the dedication ceremony of the new $33-million, four-story building that occupies a 119,000-square feet area.   "Twelve of the 79 paintings on permanent display are from a father-and-son team of Filipino-American painters, Eulalio Bueno Silva and Eulalio Fabie de Silva," the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a news release.   Among the works on display are:

  • Bueno Silva's "Sa Pateros (Candle Vendors)," a diptych featuring two seated elderly candle vendors, one holding an umbrella and the other a traditional bayong carry-all bag, and
  • Fabie de Silva's "The Existential Suburban Man (2004)" and "The Existential Suburban Woman (2004)."
The DFA said 79 paintings of various Chicago-based artists adorn the new building which has 47 state-of-the-art classrooms and a PC lab for math and science specialties. - VVP, GMA News
