10-year-old Fil-Am 'budding entertainer' surprises, charms 'Eat Bulaga' fans

At first glance, it would be difficult to guess that 10-year-old Gabby Abshire had Filipino blood. The blond "Tagalog-speaking American boy" surprised and charmed the fans of the variety show "Eat Bulaga" on Saturday when he performed the Visayan novelty song “Mitulo Na” by Max Surban. with host ‘Bossing’ Vic Sotto. Before that he emerged from the backstage with "Eat Bulaga" dancers as "Dabarkads" Aiza Seguerra, Allan K and Keempee De Leon sang “Darna” by Kamikazee.   Abshire’s parents -- a Filipino mother and American father -- were shown in the front row enjoying the show and taking pictures of their son’s performance.   Abshire and Allan K. later entertained the audience with their performance of “Teach me how to Dougie” by Cali Swag District where he rapped in Tagalog verses, “Turuan mo ko ni’yan, turo-turuan mo ko ni’yan.”   “Nalilito ako, pwede ba ulitin natin?” Abshire suddenly blurted out when Allan K. and Sotto why he stopped rapping.   Finally, Abshire along with Seguerra, Allan K. and De Leon rocked the house with “Laklak” originally by Filipino rock band Teeth.   In an earlier report of GMA's "24 Oras" newscast on Thursday, Abshire was shown in Eat Bulaga asking Sotto if he could grant him his request of singing together.   “Bossing, kung pwede, ano, kanta tayo sa Saturday. Kung pwede po kanta sa Saturday? Payag kayo?” asked Abshire.   “Marunong ka ba kumanta?” Sotto asked.   Abshire replied, “Opo.”   “Anong kanta ang gusto mo kantahin?” asked Sotto.   “Gusto niyo ‘Laklak’ or ‘Bibo’, kayo mamili.” Abshire said.   He then gave a short demonstration of his singing talent. Sotto then announced, “Watch out for Gabby this Saturday.”     After the show, Chika Minute reporter Pia Guanio asked Abshire how he managed to go to "Eat Bulaga."   “Na-Twitter ko si Allan K., pag umpisa ng Twitter, tinwitter ko siya ng tinwitter hanggang nagsagot po siya. Kaya, isang araw sagot siya. Pinayagan na po kami makapunta dito,” he recounted.      Guanio also asked how a boy from America learned to speak in Tagalog fluently.   “Natuto po ako mag-isa pero [kapag] hindi ko po talaga kaya tinatanong ko kay mama, kaya ganoon ang nangyari. Kapag ako gustong matuto sa isang bagay, at gusto ko talaga, natututo ako, nangyayari, kaya ganoon,” Abshire explained.   When asked by Guanio why his favorite show was Eat Bulaga he said, “Nakakatuwa, maganda panuodin. Hindi gaya sa ibang mga programa hindi siya maganda, nakakasawa. Pero sa Eat Bulaga want to sawa na ako maganda kasi eh. Parang hindi ako matitigil sa kakanood.” - Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
