Jessica Sanchez's mom: 'I'm so happy for her'

Seeing the support that Jessica Sanchez received from fans after she made it to the Top Two of "American Idol," her mother Editha Bugay Sanchez said she was very happy for her daughter. In a report of "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho," aired over "News to Go" on Tuesday, Editha said: “I didn’t know there were so many San Diegans. Chula Vista people just supporting her, it makes me so proud. I’m so happy for her.” Editha, who hails from Samal, Bataan, is married to a Mexican who is a member of the United States navy. Jessica's supporters Meanwhile, in a  separate interview, Filipino veteran actor-entertainer Bernardo Bernardo said: “Represent! (chuckles) No, this is the time, this is the time in our lives in the US where you can say, it’s a really multi-ethnic landscape and it’s about time we saw another kind of talent showcased.”   Even Gina Hudgens, Cebuana mom of Hollywood actress Vanessa Hudgens, was rooting for Sanchez: “Good luck, Jessica!”   Some other Hollywood celebrities only had words of encouragement for the AI finalist.   Nick Cannon, host of “America’s Got Talent” where Sanchez was once a contestant said, “Oh absolutely, come on she started with us first.”   Three members of American girl group, “School Gyrls” said, “I’ve been watching her since she was like twelve and like (squeaks). We have been watching all of her videos in YouTube. She’s amazing.”   RnB Mario said, “I’m excited for you Jessica and congratulations and share that music, share that light.”   Meanwhile, the Nokia theater in Los Angeles California is good to go for the AI season 11 grand finale showdown between Sanchez and Phillips Tuesday night (Wednesday morning in the Philippines).   The security implemented in the perimeter of the theater is tight. There are already barricades around the venue and taking footages even by the media is not allowed although designated areas have been set up for the media to conduct interviews.   There were also some Filipinos who were seen taking pictures in front of the theater just to show their support for Sanchez.   Even though they won’t be able to watch the show, they are already preparing to vote for Sanchez when the voting systems go online. Some even said that they would vote up to 30 or 50 times for Sanchez.   Earlier reports said if Sanchez wins, she will be the fifth female to win the title. The previous female winners are:

  • Kelly Clarkson (Season One);
  • Fantasia Barrino (Season Three);
  • Carrie Underwood (Season Four), and
  • Jordin Sparks (Season Six).
If she wins, Sanchez will also be the youngest American Idol winner because Sparks (Season Six) and Scotty McCreery (Season Ten) both won the competition at age 17. Apart from this, Sanchez will be the first "Idol" to come from California. Sanchez will also be the first saved contestant to win the title. She received the lowest number of votes after her performance on April 12 but "American Idol" judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson chose to use their one and only "save" of the season to keep Sanchez from being eliminated from the contest. If Phillip Phillips wins... On the other hand, if Phillips will win the competition, he will be the seventh male contestant to win the title. It will be the fifth consecutive year that a male has won the competition since 2008. The past male winners include:
  • Ruben Studdard (Season Two);
  • Taylor Hicks (Season Five);
  • David Cook (Season Seven);
  • Kris Allen (Season Eight),
  • Lee DeWyze (Season Nine), and
  • Scotty McCreery (Season Ten).
Phillips will also be the second youngest male "Idol" if he wins. The record for being the youngest male "American Idol" winner so far belongs to McCreery. If he wins, Phillips will be the first winner from Georgia.   Jessica will be needing all the support she can muster against finalist Phillip Phillips who has the ‘White Guy With Guitar’ appeal like the previous AI winners. Some tweeps said Phillips may get sympathy votes because of his current health condition —he needs urgent surgery for kidney stones. Phillips has had the health condition since the start of the show and he was able to pull through. Even though doctors are requesting that he get operated on, he firmly stated that he will have the operation after the grand finale. - VVP, GMA News
