PHL Consulate General in Hong Kong closed July 2


The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong will be closed on July 2 to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).   In an announcement posted on its website Thursday night, the Consulate General said it will resume normal operations on July 3, Tuesday.   Those who need to call the Consulate General in case of an emergency were advised to use the following hotlines:

  • Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Hotline: (852) 6345 9324
  The Hong Kong government considers July 2 a holiday to mark Hong Kong SAR Establishment Day, which this year falls on July 1.   "As the ... Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day in 2012 (falls) on a Sunday, the (day following it) will be designated as (an) additional general holiday," it said.   The handover ceremony of Hong Kong in 1997 officially marked the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China. - VVP, GMA News
