Fucking, an Austrian town, is infamous for its name which has been the cause of mockery ever since United States troops were stationed in the area after World War II, a report of the news site Huffington Post said. Citing experts, the report said the town’s name was derived from "Focko, a 6th Century Bavarian nobleman, and the modern spelling was adopted in the 18th Century." Residents of Fucking are reportedly tired of the endless mockery as they had to put up with pranksters who stole their road signs. According to the Facebook page of Fucking, Austria, the correct way to pronounce the name of the place is "Fook-ing." The site explained that "-ing" was an old Germanic suffix meaning "the people" of the root word to which it is attached. The name Fucking thus means "place of Focko’s people."
