Fil-Am among 70 injured in bloody 'Batman Rises' shooting in Colorado

A Filipino-American was among some 70 people who were wounded in the bloody shooting at a screening of a new "Batman" movie in Colorado on Friday, Philippine officials said. In a report of "Balitanghali" on GMA News TV,  Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesman Raul Hernandez said the Filipino-American victim, whom he did not name, is now recovering at a hospital. Hernandez said the information about the Filipino-American victim was reported by the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco. Meanwhile, in a message to GMA News Online Saturday afternoon, Hernandez said “no specific info could be released” yet about the Fil-Am victim. However, he cited others reports identifying the Fil-Am as Ryan Lumba, 17 years old, who was admitted at the University of Colorado Hospital. Hernandez assured the public that the state of Colorado is already contacting Filipino communities to gather information about the tragedy. He also noted that “as the Consulate contacts the family members concerned, it will offer whatever possible assistance it can provide.” A Reuters news agency report on Saturday said 11 of the 70 people injured in the shooting rampage at a suburban Denver movie theater remained in critical condition.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said out of the 70 casualties, 12 had died and 58 were injured. Of that number, 30 remained hospitalized, he said. The police said the suspect wore protective tactical gear, set off two devices before opening fire at the audience. — with Andrei Medina /LBG/VVP, GMA News
