Family to bring to PHL remains of wealthy Pinay murdered in UAE
The family intends to bring home to the Philippines as soon as possible the body of the wealthy Filipina businesswoman who was murdered by a Filipino friend in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to a report of the news site Gulf News on Tuesday, the family said they are only waiting for UAE authorities to release the body of Lorna Lim Varona, 52, who was stabbed six times and dumped in the trunk of her luxury car, a green Jaguar S-Type. The news site The National said a "Filipino man in his fifties, a close friend of the family" had confessed to the murder. The National said the suspect borrowed from the victim Dh250,000. Lorna's husband Pablo told The National that they are waiting for police officers to conclude their investigation.
Although they would like to bring her remains immediately to the Philippines, "we've been told it would take some time because it's a murder case," Pablo said.
On Gulf News, one of the four children of the couple said they have set up an altar at their residence in the UAE. "At this time, we plan to bring Mum’s body home as soon as possible and lay her to rest in the Philippines. Since we can’t do that yet as the police investigation is still ongoing, we have set up an altar in our home to remember her,” said Maria Lourdes, the eldest daughter. On Saturday, the police found Lorna's body in a pool of blood inside the trunk of her Jaguar abandoned near Industrial Area Number 11 in Sharjah, a week after she went missing.
At the time of her death, Lorna was managing four family’s companies — Seaworld Tourism, Capricorn Trading, Capricorn Documentation, and Pro Team.
She owned the Capricorn Bakery but sold it when she decided to take up other businesses.
She and her husband have four grown children: Maria Liza, Maria Lourdes, Joseph Luke, and Joseph Louis.
Community mourns too
According to Gulf News, the Filipino community in Dubai also mourned the death of Lorna. Jojie Dinsay, Philippine Commercial Attache to the UAE, said, "We have been encouraging our compatriots to engage in business here and she was one of the few who did." Dinsay cited Lorna as "one of the first Filipino entrepreneurs here who actually served as a good example for the community makes the news of her death equally tragic.” - VVP, GMA News
