Cops warn returning Pinoys vs. 'Gagamba' gang near NAIA
Overseas Filipinos returning to Manila were warned on Tuesday against opening their vehicle windows or doors to beggars in streets near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as they risk losing their valuables or getting hurt. Pasay City police chief Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Llorca a member of the so-called "Gagamba Boys" would knock on the car window or door persistently until the driver or passenger is forced to open it. Once the window or door is opened, the gang members reach in and either take valuables inside the car or try to open the other doors, Llorca said in an interview over radio dzBB. In some cases, gang members hit in the head the victims who resist them. "Usually yan 9:00 a.m., alam nila ang biyahe na galing abroad, mga OFW. Yan ang time na matrapik, sasabayan nila," "Kung may kumatok, hayaan mong kumatok," he advised. Llorca admitted they are having problems apprehending gang members as many of them are minors and could not be arrested. He said they could only turn over the captured gang members to the Department of Social Welfare and Development but these members are released shortly afterward. "Pagkatapos ng ilang oras o ilang araw ire-release naman," he said. - VVP, GMA News
