UAE sentences Iranian salesman to seven years for raping Pinay babysitter
A United Arab Emirates court on Wednesday sentenced an Iranian salesman to seven years in jail for raping a Filipina babysitter. The Dubai Court of First Instance found the salesman, 26, guilty of forcing his way into his nieces’ bedroom and attacking the Filipina, 29, Gulf News reported. Presiding Judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi also ordered the accused deported once he completes his jail term. Also, the report said the primary judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days. The Filipina said the assailant was the brother-in-law of her sponsor. Court records showed the Filipina heard a knock on the bedroom door and was hesitant to open it. She said the defendant seemed drunk when he raped her. “I had been working for 10 months for my sponsor at his residence in Al Warqa when the incident happened. My sponsor’s children, a one-year-old and a four-year-old, were sleeping when I went to bed. I locked the door, the defendant’s sister was asleep in her room. An hour later the door knocked. When the knocking continued, I hesitantly answered. I opened the door because I thought it was the mother. Surprisingly, F.M. stood at the doorstep and seemed drunk," she said. She said he then pushed her and she fell on her bed. "He removed my clothes and raped me... I stayed in the bedroom until the next morning without informing anyone what happened,” the Filipina said. The Filipina then absconded from her sponsor’s house around noon and fled to the Philippine Consulate. In turn, the consulate’s staff rushed her to a hospital then reported the rape to police. — LBG, GMA News
