Pinoy film set to open in US April 26

The riveting and unpredictable Filipino thriller, “Graceland,” is now available on VOD platforms everywhere, and will open in select theaters in New York, Los Angeles and Austin on April 26.

Drafthouse Films acquired the North American distribution rights to the truly original crime saga after the film’s world premiere at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival where it received critical acclaim and an audience award.

“Graceland” has been hailed as “mesmerizing” (Gabe Toro, Indiewire), while Twitch Film says “Graceland” is “twisted enough to keep even the most seasoned thriller aficionado second guessing up to the end.”

The film thrusts viewers into the corrupt underbelly of the Philippines’ capital, exposing a world of deceit, exploitation and startling depravity.

Written and directed by Ron Morales, a veteran of “Michael Clayton” and “The Departed,” this “vigorously breathless thriller” (Complex magazine) depicts a desperate man’s infinite moral compromises amidst a tale of kidnapping gone horribly wrong.

“Graceland” follows Marlon Villar, chauffeur of Filipino politician Manuel Chango, whose car is ambushed while he drives his and the politician’s daughter home from school one afternoon.

What results is a kidnapping gone horribly awry.
