Taking care of our skin and appearance as we age has always been a challenge for many of us who are constantly on the go.
And so is finding someone whom we can depend on to help us maintain our fresh and youthful look.
In the New York area, more and more self-conscious Filipinos are turning to the Caparros Medical Aesthetic Center on Roosevelt Avenue in Woodside, Queens, to help them clear their skin from wrinkles, acne, warts, discoloration, hair and all kinds of blemishes.
Owned and operated by Florisa Caparros, who is certified in dermatology and advanced training in dermatologic skin care, the center has been around for about five years now and continues to thrive through referrals.
"We work so hard that’s why we have to take care of ourselves especially at the onset of the aging process," says Caparros, who is by day a licensed medical practitioner and certified family nurse practitioner at a prestigious NYC hospital.
"If we do not take care of our skin and prevent skin problems as we grow older, we will end up with all the wrinkles, fine lines and skin blemishes that will provide us unhappiness," she points out.
"Remember that when you look good, you feel better, you feel happier, and you tend to look at the world in a very pleasant way," she says.
"And that affects other people around you."
Caparros Medical Aesthetic Center offers various clinically proven treatments to maintain or improve physical appearance.
One of the most popular is the intravenous Glutathione, which is a very potent antioxidant that increases the immune system and even helps cure a lot of medical entities like cancer.
Considered as the main food for the brain, it sharpens the brain cells and is beneficial to people with signs of Alzheimer’s or dementia.
“So for us, Asians, Glutathione puts us in a win-win situation because other than improving our appearance, it also prevents a lot of medical problems that’s bound to happen as we hit the middle age when we deplete our store of glutathione in our body,” she explains. "So it’s an anti-aging substance that is non-toxic."
"It's only known side effect is skin whitening," she adds.
"A lot of people, including movie stars, are taking IV Glutathione to get a youthful appearance and a clearer and whiter skin."
Another popular treatment is the Placenta, whose anti-aging substance smoothens and relaxes the skin as it removes dead skin cells and prevents wrinkle formation, while also providing a whitening benefit.
Like Glutathione, Placenta is provided in the form of cream, soap, lotion or by injection to make one’s skin radiant and younger.
Caparros is proud of the center's oxygen facials wherein pressurized oxygen is applied to the skin to reveal visibly healthier, younger looking skin.
"Oxygen rejuvenates and gives life," Caparros explains. "So when our skin starts to produce blemishes and wrinkles because we’re losing its elasticity as we age, we rejuvenate the skin with enough oxygenation to lift it and gives it new life."
The center also offers Lipotocin Plus, which assists in the breakdown of fats and even prevents the buildup of fats in the arteries.
"Lipotocin Plus is injected in the body to help our muscles contract and burn calories so that we are losing weight even if we are sleeping," Caparros notes.
She continues: "When you’re very busy and you keep on eating without exercising, this will help you maintain the shape of our body kasi nawawala ang mga fats and we look better. Best of all, it has no side effects."
The Agoo, La Union-born Caparros considers treating melasma—the dark discoloration in skin—as a personal favorite.
“You see your face everyday that can affect your mood or sanity,” she explains.
“Whenever I’m able to remove the blemishes in the face of my patients and I see the smile and glow in their faces, I just feel so good. It’s self fulfilling for me.”
Caparros said she helps educate her patients on the proper regimen of taking care of their skin independently—from food and medications, to the types of cream and soap they must use.
She discourages others who postpone their skin treatment and wait until they go on vacation to the Philippines to score a cheaper deal.
Caparros says it’s not advisable to seek treatments abroad especially if there will be no follow up.
“Unless you live there, it’s fine,” she says.
“All of our skin problems need a follow up. Without follow up, any procedure could fail. My line of communication is always open to my patients to answer all the questions. I want them to be at ease and comfortable and make them feel that they’re getting their money’s worth with high quality skin care and treatment.” - Filipino Reporter
