The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. will be closed on Monday, September 2, in observance of US Labor Day.

In an announcement posted on its website Thursday, the embassy left phone numbers for Filipinos to contact in case of emergencies.

"The Embassy of the Philippines in Washington, DC will be closed on Monday, 2 September 2013, in observance of Labor Day, a US federal holiday," the embassy said in a news release.

For emergencies requiring assistance from the Embassy, the embassy can be contacted via phone at (202) 368-2767 or (202) 467-9300.

The US Department of Labor said Labor Day is a nationwide holiday that falls on the first Monday of September.

It said the occasion is usually marked by a street parade to show "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations."

Such an occasion "constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of (the US)," it added. - VVP, GMA News
