Musical on San Pedro Calungsod wows Australian audiences
Australians learned much about the life and sacrifice of San Pedro Calungsod, the Philippines' second saint, after watching a musical about his martyrdom.
Residents in two major Australian cities were impressed with Calungsod's sacrifice through the Teen Saint Pedro musical, according to an article on the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines website.
“We encountered technical challenges left and right, but again all these were miraculously solved. We couldn’t believe our eyes. God was running the whole thing,” said producer Bob Serrano.
He said many production team members cried during many parts of the show because of the many instances of "Divine providence."
The CBCP also noted a flurry of positive reactions from audiences in Melbourne and Sydney.
Calungsod, the teen who died for the faith, was canonized in October 2012.
The CBCP said one family who watched the musical in Sydney drove eight hours to see it again in Melbourne.
Many also approached the cast to praise their performance, saying, “It’s like watching Miss Saigon”; “Thanks for telling us the story of Teen Saint Pedro.”
Serrano added many in the audience, including Australians and Filipinos, were "quiet and many were in tears."
Meanwhile, Serrano said he has received invitations to stage the musical in New Zealand, Brisbane, Dubai, Canada, Guam and Singapore. — KBK, GMA News
