PHL foreign office in Dubai to be closed Nov. 3 for Jijiri New Year

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, United Arab Emirates will be closed on Nov. 3, Sunday, in observance of the Hijiri New Year.

In an advisory on its website, the Consulate General said the appointments on Nov. 3 will be moved to Nov. 4, when it resumes office.

"The public is hereby informed that the Consulate General shall be closed on 03 November, Sunday, in observance of the New Hijiri Year holiday," it said.

"All appointments on 3 November are moved to 4 November," it added.

A separate report on Emirates 24|7 said the UAE Cabinet had announced that Al Hijri New Year holiday will be marked on November 3 for the public sector, and November 2 for the private sector.

This in effect gave the UAE a three-day weekend.

However, it also said some schools in Dubai had announced November 3 and 4 as holidays to mark the Hijri New Year.

The occasion, also known as the Islamic New Year, marks the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year. — LBG, GMA News
