Triple bigamy case vs. Pinay's husband in Scotland dropped
The triple bigamy case against the husband of a Filipina mortgage funder in Scotland has been "sensationally" dropped, a report said.
The trial of Alexander Paton, 68, was due to start at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, but it was decided that “no further proceedings” would take place, a report on Scottish Daily Record said.
No reason was given on why the case was dropped.
Paton, a retired engineering inspector, married Filipina Perla Motilla at a registry office in Glenrothes in October 2006. However, at that time, he was married to one Dorothy Campbell.
He then married Judit Gherghiteanu, a Romanian engineer, in June 2007, despite being married to Montilla, the report said.
A separate report on Herald Scotland said Paton tied the knot with one Maragaret Nicol at a church in Greenrock in 2012.
Bigamy is defined as the crime of marrying a person while already legally married.
In Scotland, persons convicted of bigamy may be imprisoned for 2 years or pay a prescribed sum.
Paton had denied all charges prior to the dropping of his case, the Scottish Daily Record said. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
