UAE court sentences police corporal to 2 years jail for molesting Pinay
A United Arab Emirates court has ordered a police corporal jailed after finding him guilty of molesting a Filipina he met online, then leaving her naked on the street in November 2013.
The Dubai Court of First Instance found the defendant guilty of molesting the Filipina and verbally threatening to kill her if she told anyone, UAE news site Gulf News reported Tuesday.
Monday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
Court records showed the corporal, 26, befriended the Filipina, 29, using the Skout app, then picked up the victim from the parking area of a mall on the day of the incident.
But he reportedly undressed and groped her, then kissed her against her will. He then threw her out of his car and left her naked in the street after she resisted his advances.
Prosecutors said the corporal kissed the Filipina against her will, groped her and undressed her when she was in his car, adding he threatened her verbally.
When the defendant appeared before the court, he insisted the Filipina asked him to pick her up and "willingly jumped into my car."
"She removed her clothes on her own and asked me to have sex with her,” he said as he entered a "not guilty" plea.
When asked by the judge if he threw the woman out of his car and left her naked, he replied, "Why would I commit such an act that is punishable by law?"
For her part, the Filipina testified she became acquainted with the defendant over the smartphone app Skout and took the pin code of his Blackberry Messenger.
“We met after a week of chatting. We went for a ride in his car. After an hour, he returned to the mall’s parking area where he had parked. He put the sunshield on the windscreen and kissed me. When I asked him to stop, he groped me. He removed part of my clothes and groped me again. I shouted at him and asked him to stop … he leant back my seat and jumped over me," she said.
She added he "molested and kissed me repeatedly," prompting her to shout and try to kick the horn to call for help.
"When I tried to open the back door and jump out, he grabbed me from my neck and threatened to kill me. He hit me when I picked my mobile phone from the floor to call the police. I moved to the driver’s seat and jumped out … meanwhile he drove off,” she said.
A policeman testified the corporal claimed during questioning that the Filipina had agreed to have consensual sex with him.
An earlier Gulf News report said the incident occurred last November. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
