Activities to promote Rizal teachings planned in Saudi Arabia

Philippine officials and Filipino community leaders in Saudi Arabia are now working on ways to promote the teachings of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal in the Kingdom.

Representatives of the groups met Saturday at the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Riyadh to discuss possible projects, Arab News reported on Sunday.

The report quoted Cenon Sagadal Jr., chapter commander of the Order of the Knights of Rizal in the Central Region (OKOR-CRC), as saying some proposals taken up included:

- setting up a Rizal’s Corner in every international school
- holding of contests on Rizal, to be participated in by international schools in the Middle East and North Africa in December
- inter-school competitions among schools in the Saudi capital in 2015.

Labor Attaché Resty dela Fuente and representatives of international schools attended the meeting as well, the Arab News report said.

Dela Fuente said the meeting was "a fruitful consultation."

"The teachers gave meaningful insights and suggestions on how to disseminate information on Rizal and how to perpetuate his teachings and idealism,” said dela Fuente, an OKOR adviser. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
